Makary: Lebanon committed to French-American ceasefire initiative

Caretaker Minister of Information Ziad Makary confirmed on Monday the government's commitment to a French-American initiative that calls for a 21-day ceasefire.

Makary made the remarks following a meeting with caretaker Prime Minister Najib Mikati at the Grand Serail, where he briefed Mikati on the outcomes of his recent visit to France.

"We sensed a serious approach from French President Emmanuel Macron, who conveyed encouraging messages to Lebanon," Makary said. "We also agreed on a special appeal to support the country."

Makary added that he informed Mikati about the talks he held in Paris, saying he was honored to represent Lebanon. "We delivered a clear message that civilians in Lebanon are bearing the brunt of the ongoing crisis," he said.

The minister also noted that Macron is planning to host a special conference on Lebanon at the end of October, with serious preparations already underway.
