According to a report by the Financial Times, an Israeli military official stated, "We want to have the capability to enforce U.N. Resolution 1701 and operate freely to secure our borders."

He emphasized that the government has adjusted its objectives following the recent escalation in Lebanon, expressing a desire for a "new reality in the north."
