LBCI sources disclose details about Lebanon's expected FATF's grey list inclusion

Sources have confirmed to LBCI that Lebanon's anticipated placement on the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) grey list this Friday will unlikely impact correspondent banks' dealings with Lebanese banks. 

These international banks are reportedly waiting for the stabilization of Lebanon's situation to consider potential investments.

The upcoming report from the FATF is expected to be similar to the December 2023 report, which expressed satisfaction with the measures taken by the Lebanese banking sector under the supervision of the Banque du Liban (BDL).

LBCI also learned that the acting BDL governor Wassim Mansouri, currently in Washington, has held discussions with correspondent banks, conveying their continued confidence in working with Lebanese banks. 

Mansouri has also engaged in talks with officials from the International Monetary Fund (IMF), requesting an assessment of the damage caused to Lebanon by Israeli attacks. He urged increased government collaboration with the IMF and the World Bank to explore what assistance they can offer Lebanon during this challenging period.

During the recent Paris Conference, Mansouri expressed his satisfaction with the humanitarian aid secured for Lebanon and its army.
