REPORT: Lebanese Communist Party stages sit-in on May Day
The Lebanese Communist Party staged a sit-in on Thursday from al-Barbir Square towards the parliament to protest against new taxes on the Lebanese citizens.

The demonstration was held in the presence of the party's secretary general, Khaled Hadada and head of the Union Coordination Committee, Hanna Gharib.

The protesters also called for tackling unemployment and rejecting the new rent law.

The UCC has been on a continuous sit-in, calling on the parliament to pass the controversial dossier pertaining to the series of ranks and salaries.

The committee refused however additional taxes on low-income families, urging the concerned authorities to find other means to fund the pay scale.
