REPORT: Journalists, officials gather in solidarity with al-Jadeed TV, al-Akhbar newspaper

Journalist Ibrahim Al-Amin from Al-Akhbar newspaper stated on Tuesday that "Al-Jadeed TV is fighting a battle on behalf of Lebanese media."

In a gathering held at the headquarters of the Press Syndicate, Al-Amin said that he asked the Special Tribunal for Lebanon to implement a series of measures, adding, “If these measures were not implemented I will not appear before court.”

The gathering at the HQ of the Press Syndicate was held in solidarity with Al-Jadeed TV and Al-Akhbar journalists, who have been summoned by the Special Tribunal for Lebanon on charges of “contempt and obstruction of justice.”

It was held in the presence of Head of the Press Syndicate Mohammad Baalbaki, Head of the Editors Syndicate Elias Aoun, MP Marwan Fares, a number of journalists, and Ibrahim al-Amin from al-Akhbar Newspaper who refused to appear before court.

The Special Tribunal for Lebanon subpoenaed Karma Mohamed Tahsin al Khayat from Al-Jadeed TV, as well as the station's parent company New TV S.A.L., to appear before the STL on two counts of Contempt and Obstruction of Justice.

Ibrahim Mohamed Al Amin from Al Akhbar, as well as the newspaper's parent company Akhbar Beirut S.A.L. have also been summoned on one count of Contempt and Obstruction of Justice.

The accused are being charged under Rule 60 bis (A) of the Rules of Procedure and Evidence and all the charges relate to the Ayyash et al. case.


Deputies from the Change and Reform Bloc and the Loyalty to the Resistance Bloc are also expected to attend the gathering.

The Special Tribunal for Lebanon held the trial session of Al-Jadeed TV and Al-Akhbar newspaper at the Tribunal’s headquarters on the outskirts of The Hague, the Netherlands.
