REPORT: Harim al-Sultan, the Turkish series that caused a stir

After the Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan has strongly criticized the famous Turkish soap opera “Harim al-Sultan”, the show’s director announced that the third season will be the final one.

According to Erdogan, the series has insulted the memory of Sultan Suleiman and the heritage of the Ottoman Empire.

The soap opera tells the story of Sultan Suleiman, who ruled the Ottoman Empire during the 16th Century, and the influence of women in his life.

The image of powerful women influencing the daily life of the sultan was not appreciated by neither Erdogan nor Egyptian President Mohammad Morsi.

According to Al Hayat Daily, Morsi warned Erdogan of this show that demeans the history of the Ottomans and the Islamic nation.
