Attention is being directed to the Baghdad 2nd Summit for Cooperation and Partnership, which will be held in Jordan on the 20th of December, as some sources indicated that preparations are underway to hold a Saudi-Iranian meeting on its sidelines that brings together the Iranian president and the Saudi king.
Is there an intention to hold such a summit?
According to LBCI sources, there is nothing official in this regard until now, but there are ongoing efforts to hold such a meeting or summit between the two parties.
However, if this summit takes place, the Lebanese file will not be at its core, and according to the sources, Lebanon is not a priority at present. Hence, it is unlikely that the Lebanese situation will be part of the Saudi-Iranian dialogue. If it takes place, other issues of concern to the two countries will come to the fore at the meeting, foremost of which are the events in Iran, the Chinese summit, and the reduction of OPEC production.
However, the lack of discussion of the Lebanese file is due, according to the source, to Qatari efforts to resolve the crisis in Lebanon, either through bringing together the parties or even through Qatar’s mediation with the influential countries in Lebanon to put the country on the right track.
Hence, is the solution to the Lebanese file in the custody of other countries?
