Harris vs. Trump: The Countdown to a New Political Showdown

A report by Petra Abou Haidar, English adaptation by Nadine Sassine

A new phase has begun for the Democratic Party on its path to the White House, with Kamala Harris at the forefront. The latest poll shows her leading her Republican rival, Donald Trump, with 48% to his 47%. These numbers were released just hours before Harris's first interview on CNN, in which she delivered a successful preview for the upcoming debate with Trump in September, according to American media outlets.

This impression came despite her largely adopting Biden's agenda, and she has pledged to build on it, convinced that the current administration's positive achievements outweigh the negatives, and she will not distance herself from them.

Nevertheless, Harris will attempt to present a new image of the Democratic administration in order to attract voters outside the Democratic base. She plans to focus on economic issues and support the middle class by increasing tax exemptions for children's services and goods, reducing price manipulation, and improving access to affordable housing. Furthermore, Harris's personality, age, and race help her attract voters from beyond the narrow Democratic circle, in contrast to Biden.

Harris's foreign policy positions were also discussed in the interview, particularly regarding the Middle East and the ongoing war in Gaza. Harris reaffirmed her commitment to Washington's established positions toward Israel.

Her interview received a lot of criticism from her Republican opponent, Donald Trump, who commented by saying, "A boring interview," and added, "I am very much looking forward to debating Kamala Harris and exposing her for fraud."

Between praise and criticism, the first debate between Trump and Harris on September 10th is eagerly awaited.
