Sweden closes Mbappe rape inquiry on insufficient evidence

A Swedish prosecutor said Thursday that she had closed an investigation into alleged rape and sexual assault against French football star Kylian Mbappe, saying there was insufficient evidence.

"My assessment is that the evidence is not sufficient to proceed and the investigation is therefore closed," prosecutor Marina Chirakova said in a statement that did not mention Mbappe by name, but noting that he had "not been notified of suspicion of a crime."
