RSF slams 'state hostage-taking' of US reporter in Russia

Media rights group Reporters Without Borders on Friday condemned as "state hostage-taking" a 16-year sentence handed down by a Russian court to US reporter Evan Gershkovich on espionage charges.

"Targeting Gershkovich in this way is another blatant example of unacceptable state hostage-taking by Russia," it said in a statement, denouncing the conviction as "outrageous."
