US says Ukraine strike 'horrific reminder' of Putin's 'brutality'

The White House on Tuesday condemned a Russian missile attack on the Ukrainian city of Poltava in which at least 51 people were killed, saying it showed the need to strengthen Kyiv's air defenses urgently.

The attack was "another horrific reminder of Putin's brutality towards the people in Ukraine," US National Security Council spokesman John Kirby told reporters, adding that the US would send more military aid to Kyiv in the coming weeks.
