Projections show Japan ruling coalition 'certain' to lose majority

Japan's ruling Liberal Democratic Party and its junior coalition partner are "certain" to lose their majority, public broadcaster NHK said early Monday, citing projections based on exit polls from Sunday's election.

Together, the LDP and coalition partner Komeito are "certain to fall short of a majority," an NHK reported, spelling a huge blow for new Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba and LDP's worst election result since 2009.
