Japan ruling party election chief resigns: official

The election committee chief of Japan's ruling Liberal Democratic Party resigned Monday after they suffered their worst result since 2009, a party official said.

Shinjiro Koizumi, the son of a former prime minister, submitted a letter of resignation, the official said, with media reports quoting him as saying he wanted to "take responsibility" for the result.
