Germany's Scholz says open to discussions on election date

German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, mired in a political crisis, said Friday he is open to parliamentary discussions on whether to move forward snap elections he has said he expects by March.

Speaking in Budapest, he urged a "calm debate" first on what laws can pass parliament this year under his minority government, which "could help answer the question of when the right time is" for a confidence vote leading to an early election.
