Over 400,000 displaced this year in eastern DRC violence: UN

More than 400,000 people have been displaced this year due to an intensifying conflict in the eastern Democratic Republic of Congo, the United Nations said Friday.

"The displacement figures have now surged to more than 400,000 people this year alone, which is almost double the number that was reported just last week," Matthew Saltmarsh, a spokesman for the U.N. refugee agency, told a media briefing in Geneva.
