UN rights council to meet on Friday on eastern DR Congo violence

The U.N. Human Rights Council said Tuesday that it would hold an urgent session on the situation in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo, which is gripped by rampant violence.

Friday's special session will focus on "the human rights situation in eastern DRC," council spokesman Pascal Sim told reporters in Geneva, adding that the request for a session had been made by Kinshasa itself on Monday evening.
