Putin told Trump 'peaceful negotiations' on Ukraine possible in first call

Russian President Vladimir Putin told his U.S. counterpart Donald Trump in a phone call Wednesday that "peaceful negotiations" on ending the Ukraine conflict were possible, the Kremlin said.

"President Putin ... agreed with Trump that a long-term settlement could be reached through peaceful negotiations," the Kremlin said in its readout of the call, which lasted almost one-and-a-half hours.
