REPORT: First and largest psychiatric hospital in Lebanon to be demolished

The Asfourieh hospital, the largest and first psychiatric hospital to be founded in Lebanon and the Middle East, dates back to the year 1890.

The facility’s buildings and the forest surrounding it extend over a space of more than 100 thousand square meters.

These building that are more than 100 years old are at the risk of demolition in favor for a residential project to be established by Solidere International, a company funding residential facilities.

The region of Hazmieh is set to lose of the buildings that should have been listed among the protected heritage sites, but the Culture Ministry seems to have another agenda.
