Rai: Lebanese refuse turning their country into a battlefield
Maronite Patriarch Beshara Rai categorically refused during his Sunday sermon in Diman to turn Lebanon into a battlefield upon which regional conflicts particularly the Syrian crisis, could be played out for the sake of personal interests of some parties.

Rai's pastoral tour on various Lebanese regions, on eve of Pope's visit to Lebanon, shed the light on the unanimous will of citizens to endorse common living and peace. On that note, the Patriarch encouraged all Lebanese to welcome Pope Benedict XVI, who is due to visit Lebanon in less than two weeks.

"The Lebanese people who have overcome the scars of wars, violence and migration since 1975...abhor turning Lebanon into an arena of settling regional and international conflicts, and the exploitation of certain camps by supplying them with arms, money and political cover in order to transfer the chaos in Syria to Lebanon for personal and factional purposes at the expense of Lebanon, its people and entity” he said.
