Minister Hussein al-Hajj Hassan says hindering work of institutions is a ‘crime’
Minister of Industry Hussein al-Hajj Hassan stated on Wednesday that disrupting the work of constitutional institutions is a ‘crime’, expressing his hope that officials resolve the issue of public sector wages.

Minister Hajj Hassan hailed the positions of Finance Minister Ali Hassan Khalil, stating that officials should be aware of the seriousness of the said issue.

The minister also expressed his hope that initiatives that will be presented during Thursday’s cabinet session be legal, voicing his regret that the series of ranks and salaries has not been passed yet seemingly since some parliamentary blocs are hindering the discussion of all dossiers pertaining to the pay scale.

Former PM Mikati's cabinet endorsed the new salary scale for public employees in 2012, ending a long dispute that had triggered several sit-ins and strikes held by the UCC.

Former President Michel Sleiman signed the decree mid-June 2013 and it was referred to the Joint Parliamentary Committees for further examination, however the law was never passed.
