US can't provide answers on Lebanon's presidency: Former Under Secretary David Hale

Former US Under Secretary of State David Hale said that his country is trying hard to help the Lebanese to stabilize the situation.

Hale called in a lecture he gave at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Lebanese officials to make the right decisions regarding the presidential elections.

"You have to make the right decisions on who will lead the country in terms of the presidency. We can't provide that answer. But what we can do is continue to encourage communication and building consensus," Hale added.

Hale mentioned that the US would continue to do the things that can contribute to tangible success.

He added that he thinks the maritime line was something that the US has been working on for nine years, noting that finally, a breakthrough was achieved thanks to the work of Lebanese leaders, Israeli leaders, and US diplomats.

"We hope that reduces tension and if it turned that gas was found under the sea that it will be very beneficial economically, to Lebanon as well," Hale concluded.
