Germany says 'logic of reprisals' in Middle East is 'wrong path'

The German government on Wednesday called for restraint in the Middle East in the wake of separate Israeli strikes that killed Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh and targeted a Hezbollah commander.

"It is essential to avoid further escalation and a regional conflagration," German foreign ministry spokesman Sebastian Fischer told reporters, adding that "we call on all actors to exercise maximum restraint the logic of tit-for-tat reprisals is the wrong path."
