Midday turnout in French poll highest in four decades

Some 26.63 percent of voters had turned out for the second round of French legislative elections by midday on Sunday, up on the first round and the highest figure since 1981.

Interior ministry figures confirmed intense interest in the vote, which is expected to leave Marine Le Pen's far-right National Rally (RN) as the largest party in parliament.
